What kind of plane will I be flying in?

The legendary De Havilland Beaver floatplane is your mode of transportation. With its short takeoff and landing capabilities, the De Havilland Beaver is the most famous bush plane in history. Piloted by a seasoned pilot, the plane can carry a total passenger weight of 1100 pounds, about 5 - 6 adult passengers. 30-feet long with a wing span of 48 feet, the Beaver has a cruising speed of 120 miles an hour. Each plane is equipped with two-way headsets that allow you to communicate with your pilot and your fellow passengers.

How long is the tour?

The tour lasts about three hours, including your greeting, transportation to and from the plane, and the flight itself. The trip to the Misty Fjords National Monument takes about 20 - 25 minutes each way. You will enjoy over an hour within the Monument, soaring, swooping, and making a remote landing on a pristine lake. Our tour allows you 30 minutes longer in the airplane than a typical Misty Fjords flightseeing tour. And, you don't have to sit with strangers. How do I dress? Is this an active tour?

Dress casually in warm layers with comfortable shoes. The plane will be maintained at a comfortable temperature, but outside it might be sunny and warm, or chilly. You will be walking down a ramp to the plane as well as standing on the floats or exploring the shoreline. A private tour is a perfect choice for those who may need assistance due to limited mobility.

What is the difference between this and other flight seeing tours?

On this flight you travel only with your own group. Your party of up to six will share an airplane and be able to talk with the pilot and each other through interactive headsets. The plane is yours - enjoy!

Can my small child go on the tour?

Of course. Though many children under the age of five will not be able to fully appreciate the beauty and the views, they might still enjoy the plane ride! Parents know their children best. Please let us know if you need a booster or a car seat for the airplane.

Will I see wildlife?

Of course! Numerous animals call the Misty Fjords home. The most frequently spotted are mountain goats, bears, and eagles. We may also see seals and whales as we soar above the glassy inside passage waterways. Your pilot is experienced at finding animals to point out to you.

Are food and drink provided?

Food and drink are not normally requested, but if you have special needs, please let us know and we can accommodate you.

I'm traveling in a group. Can we all stay together even if we are in two or more planes?

Not a problem! We can take off and land in a caravan of your own private float planes. Our experienced pilots enjoy families and groups, and understand the importance of special time together.
